Gregory L. Barnes Gregory L. Barnes, passed away on February 12, 2026. He was born June 9, 1955, in Van Wert, Ohio, to his parents Dale O. & Dorothy J. (Hunt) Barnes. Greg was the loving husband of Susan K. (Painter) Barnes. The two were united in marriage on November 1, 1975, in Van Wert, and recently celebrated their 50th anniversarya testament to their enduring love and companionship. Their life together was a beautiful journey of mutual respect, laughter, and unwavering support. An alumnus of Van Wert High School, Greg graduated with the class of 1973, embarking on a career that would define much of his professional life. He retired as a foreman for Barrett Paving Materials, Inc, dedicating 37 years of service to the asphalt industry. His leadership, integrity, and commitment to his team were hallmarks of his career. Greg's colleagues not only respected him for his work ethic but also valued his friendship and the camaraderie they shared, particularly during the safety meetings that became a ritual among the crew. Away from work, Greg was an avid golfer. The rolling greens were his haven, and he spent countless hours perfecting his swing. His love for the sport led him on many golf trips, with Myrtle Beach and Beachwood holding a special place in his heart for its picturesque courses. When he wasn't on the links, Greg could be found playing cards at LJ's Tavern. Greg was known for his love of good food and the simple pleasure of dining out. Whether it was a family meal or a dinner with friends, he cherished these moments that brought his loved ones together. Yet, it was perhaps Greg's kindness, friendliness, and selflessness that defined his legacy. These qualities made him a gentle force in the lives of those who knew him, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.
