Larry L. Gunckel GREENVILLE -- Larry Lee Gunckel, age 81 of Greenville, OH passed away to join his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Brethren Retirement Community. Larry was born on February 25, 1944, in Bradford, Ohio to the late John Harold Gunckel and Mildred (Sponaugle) Gunckel Roberts. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife Sandy, his brothers Gary Gunckel and Donnie Gunckel. Larry retired from Darke Rural Electric Cooperative after 42 proud years of dedicated service as a lineman. Known for his strong work ethic, unwavering loyalty and love for his family, Larry was a pillar of those who knew him best. He was a faithful member of Greenville First Assembly of God and an active member of The Greenville Moose Lodge #329. In retirement, Larry enjoyed attending any of the local county ball games, cruising through town on his motorcycle, catching up with friends for an early breakfast at Front Street or while socializing at the Darke County Fair. A well-known character at the fairgrounds, Larry had a knack for claiming his spot in any of the pre-set lawn chairs. Larry also never missed a chance for a good game of cards, often meeting friends at McDonalds and The Moose for their weekly matches. It was a game he took seriouslyso seriously, in fact, that he never wavered on ever letting the kids win. Larry is survived by his two sons Deron (Gwen) Gunckel of Arcanum and Tim (Leslie) Gunckel of Greenville; his four grandchildren Kyli (Hazen) Ripple, Cody Gunckel, Caitlynn (Gideon) Winter and Makenna Gunckel; his two great grandchildren, Bella and Grayson Ripple, his sister Kay (Tim) Means, his sister-in-law Goldie Gunckel, along with several nieces and nephews. A service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Boeger officiating. Burial will follow at Greenville Township Memorial Gardens. Guests may visit with Larrys family on Thursday from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Assembly of God 7219 State Route 118, Greenville OH or to Everhart Hospice 1350 N. Broadway St. Greenville, OH.
