He was born January 14, 1956, in Greenville, Ohio, to the late Paul Edward and Janet Ruth (Duzan) Lewis. Mark was a devoted husband and loving father. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Lily Ann (Goehrich) Lewis whom he married on September 2, 1978. He is also survived by his daughter Rachel (Josh) Hunter, son Daniel (Tiffany) Lewis, sister Karen (Bob) Baker, brother Larry (Marina) Lewis, grandchildren Emilia Hunter and Cade Lewis, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. Mark was a 1974 graduate of Greenville High School and was involved in the district after graduation. He was employed as a teacher at Greenville City Schools for 32 years. He taught a variety of subjects in the elementary and jr. high grades with Art and History as his favorites. He also taught adult education classes for those seeking to earn their GED and even painted for the schools during the summers. Mark had a love for history and enjoyed chaperoning the eighth graders to Washington D.C. each year. He was an avid reader with historical books being his favorite. On several occasions after retirement, he was asked to give a presentation on the events of 9/11 for the students of Greenville Jr. High. Sports were one of Mark’s passions. His favorite high school memory was playing football and being part of the undefeated GreenWave football team of 1971, Mark coached football for Greenville at the junior high and senior high levels for many years. He also coached high school football for Arcanum schools and high school baseball for Russia schools. He was a devoted fan of the Bengals, Buckeyes, and the Reds. After retirement from Greenville schools, Mark worked as a substitute teacher for Greenville and all the Darke County schools until accepting a position at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Greenville. There he enjoyed teaching physical education to students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. He also helped manage and take care of the maintenance for the school. Mark enjoyed gardening, painting, and construction work. In addition to teaching and coaching, he painted professionally and built four houses. His biggest and most pleasurable pastime was spending time with family and his dogs. His children and grandchildren were the bright spot in his life; they were his pride and joy.
