Phyllis M. Garber GREENVILLE -- Phyllis Marcette Garber, daughter of Clarence & Hazel (Butler) Rule, was born February 3, 1934, in Rossville, IN. She passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, at the age of 91 years, 7 months and 8 days, at Brookdale Care facility in Greenville, OH where she resided for her final 6 ½ years. On June 22, 1952, Phyllis was united in marriage to Robert Garber. To this union were born 2 sons. Recognizing their need for a Savior, Bob & Phyllis applied for Christian baptism and were baptized in 1957, becoming members of the Old German Baptist Brethren church to which they remained faithful until death. On April 7, 1964, Bob & Phyllis were called to the ministry and faithfully served the church and the Painter Creek district as long as health allowed. Phyllis was a helpmeet to her husband, helping him on the farm and in the community, and enjoyed over 66 years of marriage until Bob’s death in 2018. In addition to her husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, father and mother-in-law John & Pauline Garber, stepfather-in-law Andrew Gascho, brother Claredon Rule; siblings-in-law Omar and Delores Yoder, Irvin & Betty Jackson; step siblings-in-law Raymond & Marilyn Gascho and Keith & Norma Wagoner. Phyllis is survived by her two sons and their wives, Curt & Joyce and Bruce & Jackie; 6 grandchildren, Miranda & Travis Baker, Brian & Jenae, Ross & Tabi, Mary and Emily & Luke Whalen; 12 great-grandchildren, Tessa, Kassidy, Kash & Marissa Baker, Quinter, Victor, Zaida & Lena Garber, Ryder & Brexley Garber, Wrigley & Crosley Whalen, sister-in-law Sharon Rule; step-sister-in-law Laura Lah and other family and friends. Visitation will be from 9 – 11:30 at Painter Creek Old German Baptist Church on September 17, 2025. Funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. with the burial to follow at Mote Cemetery.
