Aaron J. Whitesel COLUMBUS Aaron Joseph Whitesel, 50, passed away April 13, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio. Born June 24, 1975, in Union City, Indiana, to Mick and Elizabeth Whitesel. Aaron was known for his kind heart, sharp wit, and devotion to family and public service. A 1993 graduate of Mississinawa Valley High School, he earned degrees from Purdue University and The Catholic University of America before building a distinguished career in agriculture, environmental, food, and energy policy, including years of service in the office of Richard Lugar. He later continued his work advocating for farmers, rural communities, and food security. Aaron married Amy, and together they built a family that was one of the greatest joys of his life. He was a proud father to Sophie and Thomas and loved creating adventures, telling stories, cooking, and cheering on the Purdue Boilermakers. He is survived by his daughter, Sophie; his son, Thomas; parents, Mick and Elizabeth Whitesel; brother, Adam Whitesel (Melissa); sister, Anna Smith (Corey); and his beloved nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held April 18, 2026, from 10 a.m. until noon at South Salem Church of Christ. Private family services will follow.
