Alexander J. Krueger GREENVILLE -- Alexander J. Krueger (Alex), age 60, of Greenville passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at his home in the loving care of his family after a year long battle with ALS, more commonly known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”. Alex was born November 8, 1964, in Toledo, Ohio to William C. Krueger of Defiance, Ohio and the late Anita H. (Nordhaus) Krueger. In addition to his mother, Alex was also preceded in death by his siblings, Jenny Krueger, Chris Krueger and Tony Krueger. Alex is survived by his wife of 35 years, Rona A. (Hines) Krueger whom he married October 21, 1989; and his children, Lauren D. (Krueger) & Julian Fire of Dayton and Lukus A. & Cate Krueger of Newport, Kentucky; grandchildren, Rilynn A. Fire and Adelyn R. Fire. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses Steve & Leslie Krueger of McMurray, Pennsylvania and Karla & Greg Keiffer of Risingsun, Ohio, and Thad Krueger of Defiance and numerous nieces and nephews. Alex worked at AVI Food Services in Richmond, Indiana, where his co-workers became dear friends. For 15 years, Alex served his community officiating baseball, softball and volleyball through youth sports and high school athletics. While an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, his preferred sports team was the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. At Notre Dame Stadium he worked as an usher with his parents and siblings. Alex was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville. Although his smile shown through while surrounded by friends and family, it was most evident while creating joyful memories as a papaw. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 233 West 3rd Street Greenville with Rev. Fr. Matt Feist celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Greenville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm with a memorial service at 7:30 pm and Wednesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 am at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville. Memorial contributions may be given to ALS United Ohio, 1170 Old Henderson Rd. Suite 221, Columbus, OH 43220 in Alexander’s memory.
